The RTA Board of Directors is comprised of a chairman and 15 directors who are appointed from within the six-county region: five (5) directors are appointed by the mayor of the City of Chicago, four (4) directors are appointed by the suburban members of the Cook County Board, one (1) director is appointed by the president of the Cook County Board (from Suburban Cook County), one (1) director is appointed to each of the following counties by their county’s board chairman: DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. The chairman of the RTA Board is the 16th member and is elected by its fellow RTA board members. At least 11 RTA board members must concur on the appointment which must include no less than two each from the City of Chicago  as well as the following counties: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties.
