Damon Hemmerdinger is Co-President of ATCO, a family of real estate companies. He oversees the company’s investment business, ATCO City Center Retail Estate (ACCRE); leads the company’s finance group; and manages strategic and special projects.
ATCO City Center Retail Estate (ACCRE) is a joint-venture program focused on creating special places in New York City and in certain of America’s best secondary markets. The focus is on projects that combine office, retail, and other uses and are located in or near central business districts or walkable neighborhoods. Damon’s energies are focused on Camp North End, the redevelopment of a 76-acre historic Army base, 1 mile from the middle of Charlotte’s CBD.
Damon has completed several award-winning brownfield cleanups and is in the middle of a third. He was the sole representative of the development community on the NYS Brownfield Advisory Panel, the State’s official policy-making body, until it disbanded. Damon is currently an advisory member of the Board of Directors of Hard Hat Hub, Inc., and is past Chair of the New York Government Relations Committee for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), a past member of the Board of Directors of the New York Building Congress, and an emeritus member of ICSC’s Open Air Committee.
Previously, Damon was the Development Director for The Shops at Atlas Park, a 400,000, 12-acre mixed-use development in Queens, NY, and the Director of Real Estate Development for the New London (CT) Development Corporation. His public sector experience includes work for the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office, the Clinton White House Chief of Staff’s Office, and the US DOD. Damon also served as Board Chair of AmericaSpeaks, a national non-profit deliberative democracy organization, for seven years. He is a former board member of the Queens Chamber of Commerce and the Queens Library Foundation.
Damon is a graduate of the Yale Law School and Williams College, and is a member of the bar in New York and Connecticut. A member of YPO’s Metro New York chapter, he lives with his wife Jacquie and their two daughters in Forest Hills, NY.
