Machines Conference – in the shop and in the field

6.5.2019 - 6.6.2019

The Westin Michigan Avenue 909 N Michigan Ave Chicago, IL 60611

The Event Exploring the Future of Tools, Equipment, and Machinery. From Fabrication to the Field.

It’s no secret that technology is transforming the building process from start to finish – making it possible to build smarter and with greater efficiency and effectiveness.

One area of innovation enabling this growth is Automation and Robotics. This includes the adoption of drones, machine fabrication, autonomous equipment, A.I. and machine learning.

Join us as we examine these topics in comprehensive detail with some of their earliest adopters. Automation and Robotics isn’t 10 years away. It’s here now.

Venue Details | June 5 – 6

As the industry evolves, in the face of labor shortages, escalating labor prices, and other factors, automation is growing both in the shops where more is being fabricated and modularized and in the field where more work is being done with the assistance of advanced machinery and robotics.

Day 1 Schedule

1:30 PM

Welcome Remarks

1:35 PM – 2:05 PM

Digital Innovations in Prefabrication

The growing trend of prefabrication in construction is lifting the industry to new heights in efficiency and productivity. Contributing to that trend is the adoption of BIM technology and other digital tools. Learn how digital innovation is helping to integrate and visualize critical project information in the practice of off-site fabrication.

2:10 PM – 2:40 PM

Additive Manufacturing in Off-Site Fabrication

During this fireside chat, we’ll explore advances in 3D printing technology, current applications for 3D printing in construction, and what leading builders and technologists anticipate for the future of additive manufacturing in prefabrication.

2:45 PM – 3:05 PM

Networking Break

3:10 PM – 3:40 PM

Keynote: Highrise Modular Buildings

3:45 PM – 4:15 PM

How Modular Construction impacts project delivery

The trend of modular construction is dramatically altering the structure of project delivery. As project teams becomes more and more vertically-integrated and the role of off-site fabrication continues to increase, the modern construction project is more streamlined and efficient than ever before. Hear from some of the leading modular builders and learn how technology and tools enable modular construction.

4:20 PM – 4:50 PM

Katerra's K90 project

Katerra’s K90 project outside of Las Vegas is a 24-unit garden apartment designed to be completed in 90 days – 30-50 days less than the average project of this size. Learn about how Katerra is using technology to impact every aspect of the $1.3 trillion U.S. building construction process, from materials to energy systems to software that manages the entire process.

5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Networking Reception Party

Day 2 Schedule

9:00 AM

Welcome Remarks

9:05 AM – 9:30 AM

Keynote: The Fully Autonomous Job Site

Hear Mitch Tobias about Caterpillar's vision to make customers more productive and safe through the digital transformation of their jobsites. The technology is here and the next step is industry-wide adoption. Join the conversation as we address the following questions: how do we move from a fully manned site to a fully autonomous site? What challenges exist from a customer perspective? What workflow integration changes are required to allow contractors to run autonomous job sites?

9:35 AM – 10:05 AM

Industry Insights: Advanced Machinery & Robotics

Featuring the owners and users of construction equipment, this panel will shed light on the future of construction machinery from a ‘boots-on-the-ground’ perspective. What goes into safely and efficiently operating and maintaining these machines? How are advancements to field robotics and autonomous machinery changing the role of the contractor and how can others be best prepared for changes to come in the near future?

10:10 AM – 10:30 AM

Networking Break

10:35 AM – 11:05 AM

Fireside Chat: The New World of Equipment Management Systems

Owning and operating construction machinery is no small task. During this fireside chat, you'll learn how digital tools help builders save time with equipment procurement, tracking and controlling costs, accessing invoices, and more.

11:10 AM – 11:40 AM

Fireside Chat: Tracking & Monitoring of Equipment

On a modern jobsite, manual and paper-based equipment tracking is no longer effective. With massive fleets of equipment and vehicles to manage, contractors are well-served by new software platforms that allow them to monitor and track their assets. Learn how digital tools help equipment owners know where their assets are, how they are being used, and when they need to be maintained.

11:45 AM – 12:40 PM

Networking Lunch

12:45 PM – 1:15 PM

The Power of Telematics

With an influx of jobsite data and new ways to collect information and perform critical work, it's imperative that our jobsites have a strong network connection. We'll learn about the industrial IoT solutions that are being offered and implemented in order to make our equipment and jobsites smarter and to put our data to work.

1:20 PM – 1:50 PM

Field Robotics: Is you jobsite ready to adapt?

With autonomous robotic technology becoming more and more of the norm, the jobsite is headed for a radical transformation. These machines take on the heavily-repeated, labor-intensive tasks that can delay project delivery and strain budgets. Learn how construction managers and contractors can better allocate their resources while still being confident in the quality of work being done.

1:55 PM – 2:25 PM
