Experienced Design/Build-type estimating position for individual routinely performing large workload consisting of all types of estimates based on conceptual information, on any size project including those exceeding $50 Million, with an aggregate up to approximately $250 million annually. Routinely called upon to use judgment & historical assemblies cost information & meet stringent deadlines.


Prepare preliminary cost studies to determine the feasibility of intended projects, including the analysis of different site locations, building uses, size, internal components, general analysis of different construction systems and methods as well as governmental requirements. Preliminary estimates are typically based on conceptual information, and the individual will need to utilize the input of the design professionals and subcontractors in the formulation of these estimates.

Perform Design Cost Control – Create, in concert with the design professionals and key subcontractors, the construction specifications to be used in generating the final construction drawings for design/build projects. Extensive research and analysis of alternate systems are conducted. When systems are selected, coordinate and verify the inclusion of the most appropriate systems into the proposed project documents to meet the goals of the project.

Formal Budget Preparation – Prepare final construction estimates of the project once it is fully designed, focusing on bid document interpretation and clarification during the formal estimate process. Perform plan review and generate trade summaries. Individual will work with subcontractors and design professionals to resolve all issues related to estimate. Receive, organize and qualify subcontractor proposals to determine “low”, “qualified” subcontractors. Prepare estimate related presentation-grade documents (qualification, exclusions, allowances, alternates, value engineering, drawings list, line item breakdown, etc.) for presentation to client(s).

Value Engineering – Effectively evaluate construction systems and methods for alternate solutions to budget constraints, including the research necessary to understand, organize, price and present same suggestions to client.

Project Buyout Procedures – Perform subcontractor buyout procedures, including subcontractor comparison spreadsheet, writing letters of intent, writing subcontractors and preparing a buyout recap sheet.

Client Presentations – Assist in presentations to client by providing cost analysis, informational items and value engineering cost savings suggestions. Attend client meetings along with Sr. PCM, Director of Preconstruction and/or as a sole representative of Stiles Corporation.


May occasionally instruct or show others how to perform work and/or utilizes software. Sometimes assigned as a team leader and/or bid captain on specific projects.


  • Four year college degree in construction related field, or commensurate experience.
  • Plus a minimum of seven years construction cost estimating experience.
  • Construction field experience – preferred.


  • Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel -required.
  • Database management software (MS Access) knowledge preferred.
  • Bid Fax-Type software knowledge- preferred.
  • Typing skills required.
  • Ability to learn new construction software.
