Cornell University - Bloomberg Center

The Bloomberg Center will rely completely on geothermal for all the buildings heating. The 80 boreholes running a depth of 400 ft were installed as part of the buildings initiative to be net zero. The bore field will also become a grassy open public space.

Features

This system, the first of its kind in the United States, utilizes a unique annulus pumping system (adopted from the oil industry) to increase the efficiency of the ground loop. It takes advantage of river water penetrating through fissures in the local bedrock to accelerate thermal dissipation.
