Embodied Spatial Intelligence and Future Construction
What would it take for robots not only to move through buildings, but also to help build and maintain them? This talk explores the idea of embodied spatial intelligence: the capability of intelligent machines to perceive space, reason about it, and interact with it through physical action. Using examples from construction robotics, including robotic inspection and autonomous building systems, I will discuss how advances in mapping, navigation, manipulation, and collaboration could reshape the future of construction. At the same time, construction sites remain among the hardest environments for robotics, because they are unstructured, constantly changing, and full of materials, machinery, and human workers. Understanding and engineering intelligence for such settings may be essential to making future construction safer, more efficient, and more adaptive.
