Betting on Climate Tech: Examining the Evolution of Venture Activity in the Climate Tech Space – BuiltWorlds Conversations

In this installment of BuiltWorlds Conversations, we sit down with VoLo Earth Venture Partner & COO Elaine Hsieh, who’s had an absolutely storied career that has included roles at the US Department of Energy’s loan program office, the US under secretary for infrastructure, the US Green Building Council, RMI, Generate Capital, the Green Biz Group, and Third Derivative, of which she was also a co-founder (just to name a few). During our conversation, Hsieh touches on the recent history of sustainable investing trends (including the shift in climate tech investing since 2022), the intra-industry challenges of understanding the ROI of these technologies, the growing role of circular economic principles in AEC, and what she learned in working helping the federal government deploy clean energy capital.

Hsieh will also be joining BuiltWorlds for Venture West this March 11-12 in San Francisco, where she’ll be speaking on the “Climate-First Construction: Investing in Carbon, Codes, Circularity and Sustainability” panel, sharing the stage with Jesus Ortiz De La Fuente from Cemex Ventures, Jordan Darling from Superesede, Alexander Bent from Undivided Ventures, and Sam Ruben from HyWatts.
