Autodesk names new CEO

This week, Autodesk announced the successor of Carl Bass, who resigned from CEO earlier this year (here’s a refresher, if you forgot).

Autodesk Build Space — We’ll be hosting a party Autodesk’s Build Space on July 13 in Boston! More info here (join us!).

Andrew Anagnost, a 20-year veteran of the company, will begin as Autodesk’s new president and CEO and also join the board of directors. Anagnost has spent his time at Autodesk in many departments, including product management, product development marketing, and new business development.

“This is an exciting time for Autodesk, and I am thrilled to be taking on the CEO role,” said Anagnost.

USG and U.S. Chamber of Commerce launch new Commercial Construction Index

USG and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have come together to announce their new economic index, the Commercial Construction Index (CCI). The quarterly reports are meant to measure the outlook and confidence level felt across the commercial construction industry. Reports will evaluate conditions upon factors such as backlog levels, new business opportunities and revenue forecasts. According to the data, contractors have high confidence in positive business outcomes over the next 12 months.

Skanska USA to build $113M recreation center at Boston College

Skanska USA was awarded the contract to build Boston College’s new 244,000-square-foot recreation facility. The building, designed by CannonDesign, includes a fitness center, natatorium, several basketball and tennis courts, a jogging track and other amenities. The project is slated for completion in 2019. Gilbane wins several awards

All Hands on Tech AR/VR — We chatted with Gilbane’s Lucas Richmond in an episode of All Hands on Tech last fall.

This week, Gilbane received numerous awards for excellent performance. First, Gilbane was awarded the Chicago Building Congress Merit Award for their work on Joliet Central Student Center Addition. A few days later, the Federation of Women Contractors honored Gilbane with 2017 Project of the Year and Contractor of the Year.

Caterpillar creates new divisions

As part of an effort to improve customer support, Caterpillar created two new divisions — the Product Support & Logistics Division and Digital Enabled Solutions Division. The former will focus on product supply chain and functionality, while the latter will cover data analytics and customer experience, among other topics.
