On August 13th, John Tolva will be returning to BuiltWorlds to update us on his work with city planners around the world. Hailing from IBM and the City of Chicago’s first Chief Technology Officer, John helped us very early to understand how sensors and cloud computing could change our entire approach to planning city scale infrastructure projects. When he walked through our doors in 2014, he helped us to see how a new era of cheap and widely deployed sensors and powerful cloud computing held the potential to change, radically, how we program at city-scale. Before we get to John, however, our glimpse into the possibility of gathering and rendering data to understand our cities like never before took us to San Francisco and another group focused on leveraging Big Data at “City Scale.”
