What’s going on?
Scania, a leading manufacturer of trucks, buses, and other transport solutions, has developed a biofuel self-driving truck, primarily for material hauling in mining and other large construction settings. Scania’s fully autonomous truck, AXL, does not have a cab and operates on an intelligent logistics system based on the task it is to perform. The truck leverages cameras, radar and lidar sensors, and GPS to navigate the job site in a safe and efficient manner.
How does it help?
According to the BuiltWorlds Construction Technology survey, around 35 percent of contractors believe the best use of AI and machine learning is for automating repetitive tasks. While the mining industry has begun to take advantage of autonomous equipment because of the relatively-controlled nature of mining worksites, there are still several applications to construction projects and tasks that operator-less machinery can handle. Utilizing autonomous construction equipment and machinery can be impactful in a number of ways:
- Optimize workers’ times by automating repetitive tasks and allowing them to use…
