Round up: $12M investment, AR, architecture on Mars

1. Assemble Systems raises $12 million in Series A financing

Assemble Systems, a cloud-based BIM management software, raised $12 million in a Series A financing round led by Autodesk Forge Fund. The funding will allow Assemble Systems to further integrate its software with Autodesk’s BIM 360 platform.

2. Mortenson integrates augmented reality into projects

Mortenson Construction has embraced AR in order to give its clients greater control over the construction and design process. The Mortenson project team at Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Integrated Procedural Platform utilized Microsoft HoloLens 3D models to walk doctors and nurses through the unifinished work space. The team plans to integrate the doctors’ and nurses’ feedback into their design plans.

3.  IrisVR rolls out new presentation tools for Prospect Pro

IrisVR is a virtual reality software that allows builders and clients to view a space before it is built. The company recently updated its desktop software, Prospect Pro, to allow one user to control a tour from a desktop while another user experiences the tour through VR goggles.

4. CannonDesign helps create plan for colony on Mars

Hilda Espinal, the Chief Technology Officer at CannonDesign, has been appointed to the advisory council for the HP Mars Home Planet Urbanization Challenge. The Challenge brings together architects, engineers, and artists to develop a plan for an imaginary city on Mars. The plan will be animated and, through VR technology, people on earth will be able to experience the Mars colony. You can catch Espinal at the BuiltWorlds Hackathon, where she will be judging the Autodesk-sponsored software competition.

5. SOM partners with Mana Contemporary Chicago to discuss the intersections between art and engineering

A panel discussion on November 28 at 7:00 p.m. will bring together engineers from global architecture firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill with artists who have collaborated with SOM. Their discussion will center around the interdisciplinary collaborations displayed in the exhibit “SOM: Engineering x [Art + Architecture]” at Mana Contemporary Chicago. The exhibit will be on display until January 7, 2018.
