,The Impact Infrastructure Projects have on Cities.
At Cities Conference, learn how large development projects impact public infrastructure, what considerations have to make to plan for such massive projects and how mega-development affects the urban systems around them. We’ll also explore new technologies in transportation, mobility, waste, water and energy transform modern city infrastructure projects, and how the overall maintenance and operation of city infrastructure assets—planning, designing, construction—continues to evolve as the built environment continues to evolve.

Case Study of Large-Scale Planning & Development: Village of Schaumburg
Sean MCarthy, VP Business Development, Comcast | Andria Winters, Senior Director, CBRE | Christine Torres, Head of Chicago, WiredScore | Brian Townsend, Village Manager, Village of Schaumburg
In terms of suburban growth, mixed-use developments are becoming increasingly popular in the towns sitting just outside large cities' limits. The Village of Schaumburg recently dedicated "Veridian," which was constructed on the site of the former Motorola corporate headquarters and is part of the 90 North redevelopment. We'll sit down with some key stakeholders on this project and walk through why these developments are becoming increasingly popular in suburban areas across the country.
The Future of Urban Mobility
Simona Rollinson, CIO, Clayco | David Leopold, Director of Solutions & Programming, City Tech Collaborative | Beth Bond, Head of City Development | Bosch
As cities become increasingly dense, the efficient movement of people and goods has become more important than ever. From the rise of the AV, to new developments to mass transit, to improved wayfinding and road maintenance, emerging technology is transforming the urban transportation landscape.
Networking Break
Decentralized Energy Infrastructure
Taylor Patton, Vice President Macquarie | John Jurewicz, Lead Technical Optimization, Walbridge | Jeff Drenovksy, Operations Director, ESD
Energy provision in the United States is characterized by outdated, centralized grid infrastructure. While we continue to ask more from the grid than what it was designed to provide, it has become less reliable and resilient. On this panel, we will explore how decentralized energy infrastructure and local energy generation can empower building operators and providers of critical infrastructure assets to provide constant, uninterrupted services, at a lower cost.
Fireside Chat: Upgrading the Energy Infrastructure in Ligonier Valley
Brian Towne, Sr. Business Development Manager, Constellation
Reduction in school districts’ general operating budgets is an ongoing challenge. Ligonier Valley, located about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh, has many facilities that could benefit from an energy efficiency initiative focusing on areas of deferred maintenance via technology and infrastructure upgrades. Constellation was selected to develop a project around equipment and systems that were at or beyond life cycle and operating less efficiently compared to new technologies, and will implement district-wide upgrades including state-of-the-art building automation systems, new roofs, high-efficiency heating systems, water conservation measures and more.
Welcome Reception & Infrastructure Tech 50 Awards
We'll cap off the first day of our conference with the presentation of the winners of our Infrastructure Tech 50 List, a conversation with a few of the judges who choose those winners, and finally a networking reception.
Exclusive Reception
Join us for a night of food, drinks and networking.
Day 2 Schedule
Breakfast & Networking
Welcome Remarks
Jim Lichtenwalter, Research Analyst, BuiltWorlds
Case Studies: Platform Engineering
Joseph Burns, Managing Principal, Thornton Tomasetti | Ann Thompson, SVP - Architecture & Design | Peter Siegal, Lend Lease
As Cities densify and space becomes more scarce, the focus is increasingly turning to nontraditional development sites. Additionally, this same trend toward densification puts pressure on mobility solutions, as cities grapple with congestion. We'll walk through some high-profile projects like Hudson Yards, The 78 Project, and The Former Riverline Project. These projects open acres of previously unavailable land for development, improve connectivity within cities, and also support better transit. TT will discuss their Sunny Side Yards Project in New York City as a Case Study in so-called “Platform Cities.”
Financing Infrastructure Projects
Aaron Toppston, Senior Development Manager, Walsh Investors | Tom Budescu, Senior Vice President, EY | Aaron Ozinga, President - Ozinga Materials & Logistics, Ozinga | Clayton Lewis, Innovation Project Specialist, Haskall
Infrastructure projects can be both costly and complicated. We'll walk through this process with three speakers who all touch these projects at different points, and go over the most effective way to get infrastructure financed.
Networking Break
Technology in Planning & Zoning
Michael Jansen, Chairman & CEO, CityZenith | Karson Kopecky, Co-Founder & Project Manager, Cviker Corporation | Andrew Lindsey, Director of Applied Research & Development, Alpha Corporation
Technology is becoming more and utilized both on the jobsite and during the preconstruction phase. But how can we leverage tech solutions to account for the planning and zoning of projects? We'll look at the effective ways companies can use these solutions to properly plan and zone their projects.
Fireside: Waterways, Water Quality & Infrastructure
Steve Frenkel, Executive Director, Current
The ways cities move, use, and clean water are of the utmost importance. Not only is water vital for human survival, but cities like Chicago need a huge source for transportation, cleaning, and other infrastructure needs. We'll sit down with Steve Frenkel to talk about how cities can effectively use their waterways to sustain their populations and infrastructures.
Lunch
Keynote: High Performance Government & Innovation
Nick Kittle, Government Performance & Innovation Coach, Cartegraph
The Future Building Department
Ross Wagner, Technical Solutions Executive - Constrution, PlanGrid - An Autodesk Company | Lenny Coleman, Associate for Construction Management Services, WRA | Nick Everson, Program Manager, Walsh Construction
Having heard from Nick about the value of prioritizing innovation in culture-building and project selection at the government level, let’s now dive deeper with an opportunity to hear PlanGrid and some of its partners about how they are working to support smarter projects/paperless jobs and the challenges they face in doing so.
Conference Debrief
Jim Lichtenwalter, Research Analyst, BuiltWorlds
To close the conference, we'll go over some of the key insights, and talk about the biggest takeaways.
