Multi-dimensional Egan adds 3D Imaging Tools
by MICHAEL ARMSTRONG | March 25, 2016
Amid all the hubbub in Orlando this week at MCAA’s 2016 Annual Convention and Trade Show, member contractor and fabricator Andy J. Egan Co. announced that it will be adding 3D Imaging Services to its family of companies.
The Grand Rapids MI-based Egan and the Flint MI-based 3D Imaging already have been working together since 2011 on projects that require laser scanning. In fact, 3D Imaging already had become a preferred vendor for Egan. And now, the two are moving in together.
“Following the acquisition, 3D Imaging Services’ Flint office and employees will relocate to Egan’s Grand Rapids headquarters,” reads a March 15 statement on 3D Imaging’s website. Even so, the firm will still operate as a separate LLC.
Weaver: It’s a natural.
“Their approach to construction technology is very similar to ours,” said Chris Weaver, Egan’s Director of Technology. “When we first implemented BIM in 2001, it changed the way Egan operated. In order to fully integrate new construction technology into the company, we invested significant time into integrating that technology with our company culture. Once we began working together, they became a natural extension of our business.”
Founded in 2006, 3D Imaging Services is a construction and technology company that provides digital documentation via 3D imaging technology, as-built modeling, facilities management solutions, and more. The Andy J. Egan Co. dates back to 1919, offering plumbing, piping, and HVAC services that have since evolved into design-build, building information modeling (BIM), fabrication, mechanical insulation, controls and 24/7 operations and management services for commercial, industrial and institutional applications.
