April’s first Analyst call explored Building Tech and IoT and how to use it to its full potential within the swift-moving developments of the built world. Sean Wrenn, BuiltWorlds’ Research Analyst, facilitated the call that highlighted guest speakers: Blake Miller, CEO of Homebase; Darlene Pope, President for North America, at Planon; and Carter Kennedy, CEO of SoloInsight. The term IoT, or Internet of Things, refers to the network interconnection between physical devices, buildings, vehicles, and other items that are embedded with sensors, software, and network connectivity. The development towards integrated and connected building systems is rapidly replacing the traditional world of isolated systems and data. This shift is observable in many different contexts, and although the advantages of these connected systems may vary from one building to another, its impact rings true.
“A lot of people will think IoT is just collecting data and feeding it up to a Tableau dashboard and saying, ‘Ta-da, there’s my report!’, but it really is about taking all of those connections and data from all those devices and automating things.” Darlene Pope, Planon.
