Preliminary Agenda

This year’s Venture East conference will start with pre-conference events for our Forum Members, progress to our Venture Forum Demo Day and then to more coverage of the earlier stages of tech in our ecosystem. We’ll have plenty of time for networking and conversation, including Wednesday evening, and then, on Thursday, we will transition to deeper exploration of the later stage startups, investors, and themes moving our industry.

As opposed to Venture East, which focused more on the East Coast of the US, Latin America and Europe, we hope to look deeper into the ecosystem on America’s dynamic West Coast and also further into Asia and Australia.

Stay tuned. The first group of presenters and session topics will be announced soon. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter to be the first to hear.

Investing in Hard Tech In The Built Worlds

Investing in hardware is often seen as much more complicated and expensive than investing in software. In this session, we will meet entrepreneurs developing solutions in the “hard world” of materials, equipment and robotics and investors active in those areas. We’ll hear their perspectives on how investing in “hard tech” can be different from investing in software. We’ll learn about the potential pitfalls and also the opportunities of this very active area of the ecosystem.

Analyst Luncheon: Corporate VC

Built World Corporate Venture: Asian Markets

Asian companies have become very active inventors in emerging tech in the Built World in recent years, and many of those companies are increasingly engaging with the broader global ecosystem. In this session, we’ll learn about who the players are, how their region is influencing their approach, what they are investing in, and how they are engaging with the broader ecosystem.

A Look Back at the Past Decade of Built Tech

It has been a wild ride for Built World Tech investing over the past decade. We have witnessed the development of sector focused funds, corporate venture in the sector, our first sector-specific IPOs, our first billion dollar and ten billion dollar exits, and more. In this session, we look back on how things have changed over the past decade and then look forward at what to expect in the next decade.

11:25am – 12:25pm

Life after the Exit - Answering the question: What’s next?

As more companies are being sold in the ecosystem, we are seeing the emerging of a strong class of "veteran founders" who are finding their way back into the industry in funds, in new startups, and as advisors, we are looking to have a discussion with a group of these really powerful alumni and hear their perspectives on how the industry has changed, what that transition is like, and what they are focusing on in their "what's next?" career phase.
