Project Details

DPR is building 265,000 sqft of medical office space that houses operating rooms, procedure rooms and imaging departments within an existing building that is being repurposed. The project had specific speed to market criteria where production was key and having solutions that help the project keep lean and reduce waste became evident at very early stages.

Objectives

For this project, DPR wanted to provide the on-site team with intuitive, location-aware access to their BIM models on mobile devices.

  • Sitelink's objective for this project is to help the team assess quality on an ongoing, proactive basis throughout the construction process.

Outcomes

The team is using Sitelink for access to 3D BIM models out on the job site, ranging from quality oversight by VDC to day-to-day reference by trade foremen.

  • Sitelink is enhancing foremen's understanding of future installed work for the purposes of avoiding conflicts or accessibility challenges and offering quick, easy references for constructability for all team members.
  • Used on this project, Sitelink helps the team assess quality on an ongoing, proactive basis throughout the construction process.
  • Issues have been identified ahead of installation resulting in better construction sequence and having to avoid resolving conflicts late in the game.

Next Steps & Future Use

While the project is ongoing, DPR noted that future steps with using Sitelink's technology includes building tools to improve trust with the user, and making the model setup easier. Additionally, they are aiming to make the model alignment with QR codes easier, and develop a robust scan export workflow.

BuiltWorlds Analysis

Sitelink was featured in BuiltWorlds' 2024 Reality Capture Top 50 List, which includes an array of solutions, including 360 photogrammetry solutions for buildings and infrastructure, as well as some of the specific hardware and technology solutions involved in reality capture, such as drones/UAVs, LiDAR scanners, fixed cameras, IoT sensors and wearable capture devices.

Sitelink was identified as site capture software used by BuiltWorlds' 2024 Field Solutions benchmarking survey respondents. In this year's survey, over 90% of respondents who utilize a site capture software solution regularly identified progress tracking, quality assurance, and visualization of site conditions as the top use cases for the solution(s) they use. Less than 10% of survey respondents indicated that they use site capture software on every project. The majority of respondents use a solution regularly on some projects (between 10% and 90%). Around 12% of survey respondents are actively piloting solutions. Respondents from a few companies noted that they are not currently using a scheduling solution, or are unsure of their organization's use of site capture software.
