Project Details

RG Construction, an Illinois-based specialty trade contractor used Dusty Robotics' flagship product, Field Printer in a hospital expansion project at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago.

Turner was the general contractor involved in the overall project. The project broke ground in 2022 and is ongoing, expected to be completed by June 2030.

RG Construction has a $27 million contract for the installation of 100 prefab exterior panels, 250 prefab bath pods, and the ceiling system.

Objectives

Project leaders realized that in order for the overall project to be successful, they needed an enhanced partnership with their general contractor and multiple other trades in order to lay out multiple additional trades at once, bolstering collaboration, improving project quality, and shorting the overall project schedule.

  • RG Construction, a wall and ceiling specialty contractor, led the implementation of Dusty, having using the technology previously.
  • Dusty FieldPrinter printed the layout for the framing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC components of the project.

Outcomes

Dusty was used on 10 floors of the building expansion for consolidated layout. Though multiple trades were involved, RG led the use of Dusty on site.

  • RG's use of Dusty was all under its allocated layout budget for the project, an estimated $300k in savings
  • RG stated Dusty "proved its weight in gold" on the project, noting that FieldPrinter's ability to consoldiate layout for every trade was a game changer.

Next Steps & Future Use

RG Construction is continuing to use Dusty Robotics on this project in partnership with the other trades and the GC.

RG uses Dusty across multiple projects, one being Win Creek Casino - Chicago Southland. RG utilizes Dusty almost like a service provider, even if they are not involved in the project as a subcontractor.

BuiltWorlds Analysis

BuiltWorlds' 2023 benchmarking data reflect high rates of implementation and satisfaction ratings for Dusty Robotics that exceed the industry average. In addition to a high overall score, Dusty Robotics also exceeded the industry average satisfaction score in five functional categories, including ease of use, installation/performance quality, installation/performance speed, software platform UX/UI, data integration with existing software(s).

Across all robotics vendors in the industry, Dusty saw the highest implementation rates overall, with a fifth of respondents using the solution to some degree.
