THIS EVENT IS GREAT FOR:
Urban Planners & Architects
As the people planning and designing in the face of rapid urbanization, they will learn from our panels of experts builders and technologists about the trends they’ll need to account for.
As the decision makers and legislators guiding infrastructure development, they’ll learn from industry influencers about how to work with built players to solve city-scale problems and start building the cities of tomorrow, today.
They have the land and they have the risk. At Cities, they’ll learn the challenges they need to tackle to transform their portfolios into city solutions for everyone.
Contractors and Construction Managers
With a direct hand in the building and maintenance of infrastructure assets, they will learn about planning and technology trends to continue optimizing the building process and help position themselves to win bids for city-scale projects moving forward.
Day 1 Schedule
Large Scale Planning & Development Case Story
The Future of Urban Mobility
As cities become increasingly dense, the efficient movement of people and goods has become more important than ever. From the rise of the AV, to new developments to mass transit, to improved wayfinding and road maintenance, emerging technology is transforming the urban transportation landscape.
Decentralized Energy Infrastructure
Energy provision in the United States is characterized by outdated, centralized grid infrastructure. While we continue to ask more from the grid than what it was designed to provide, it has become less reliable and resilient. On this panel, we will explore how decentralized energy infrastructure and local energy generation can empower building operators and providers of critical infrastructure assets to provide constant, uninterrupted services, at a lower cost.
Fireside: Energy Project Case Study
Infrastructure Tech 50 Award Reception
The Infrastructure Tech 50 features emerging solutions in the smart infrastructure space. Enabling cities to become more resource-efficient and resilient, companies on the list are categorized by infrastructure system: (1) communication, (2) water, (3) energy, (4) mobility, and (5) waste.
Day 2 Schedule
Financing Infrastructure Projects
What are the challenges to financing large-scale infrastructure construction? What are the different funding mechanisms in place, and who are the stakeholders? Is that changing as the private sector plays an increasingly large role in the infrastructure sector?
Tech in Planning & Zoning
What are the digital tools that planners rely on to facilitate research, community outreach, zoning, design, and plan-making?
Keynote: Blockchain and Infrastructure
The applications for peer-to-peer exchange in infrastructure systems are exciting and wide-reaching. Join us with AECOM’s Stephen del Percio to discuss how blockchain technology offers a paradigm shift in the design, funding, operations, and maintenance of critical infrastructure assets.
Keynote: High Performance Government & Innovation
The Future Building Department
Having heard from Nick about the value of prioritizing innovation in culture-building and project selection at the government level, let’s now dive deeper with an opportunity to hear from a panel of America’s most progressive building departments on how, specifically, they are working to support smarter projects/paperless jobs and the challenges they face in doing so.
Wednesday August 14, 5:30PM – 7:30PM
Join us for an intimate evening of drinks, hors-d’oeuvres, and networking with Cities Conference speakers, and special guests. We’ll also announce the winners of our 2019 Infrastructure Tech 50 list, selected by our expert panel of judges.
