At the 2018 BuiltWorlds Hackathon, we gathered a number of insights about where our industry is headed. While we shared some of our observations with the BuiltWorlds community in the BuiltWorlds Hackathon Wrap Up, we wanted to provide this deep dive analysis exclusively to our Strategic and Enterprise members:
1. Big data analytics are invading the built world
Many of the Hackathon teams really honed in on collecting and analyzing large amounts of data. In some cases, applications leveraged crowdsourcing efforts. The team Batman and Holo Friends created a design app using the HoloLens but also provided a mechanism for the “crowd” to provide feedback on the design.
Other teams scraped public databases. Team Mountain Movers developed an app that would continuously scrape the database of building code violations. The app would use the data to help contractors and property managers understand the most common violations for their type of property. Armed with this information, builders and property managers could better avoid citations.
Another application gathered data from projects and analyzed it using machine learning. Team Lone Wolf developed an app…
