We are very pleased to announce that Darren Bechtel, Managing Director of San Francisco – based Brick & Mortar Ventures will be joining our Thursday afternoon look back at how the Built World Tech Sector has matured over the past decade and where it may go from here. Thanks again to Jeff Herriman of Ascentage Group, LLC for moderating. (For more on the conference, click here: 2022 Venture West Conference)
Bechtel was an early investor in some of the sectors biggest success stories, including BuildingConnected and PlanGrid. More recently Hilti Group acquired Fieldwire another Brick & Mortar portfolio company, and Procore Technologies picked up Levelset for a combined $800 million. We will discuss those acquisitions and other recent M&A activity in the sector in the preceding session with members of the Hilti’s vice president, Annika Ensrud, and Fieldwire’s Founder & CEO, Yves Frinault as well as with perspective from Nemetschek Group’s Tanja Kufner.
Representing the East Coast in the session, we are pleased to feature Camber Creek‘s Jeffrey E. Berman. Camber Creek was arguably even earlier to the last decade’s investment wave. Their portfolio company, Latista, was sold to construction payment management software company, Textura, a decade ago. More recent investments in companies like Building Engines, Bridgit, and Measurabl have made them lead sector-focused investors on the East Coast.
Meantime, Eric Lamb of DPR Construction-sponsored, WND Ventures gets the nod for having launched one of the first ongoing construction company sponsored corporate VC efforts. Their portfolio includes companies like Skycatch, Rhumbix, Dusty Robotics, StructionSite, ALICE Technologies Inc., Manufacton, Indoor Reality Inc. and also sector fund Building Ventures and incubated companies like VueOps® and ourPlan. Big thanks to Kaushal Diwan and Atul Khanzode for opening their doors to our E&C Tech Leaders forum during the conference for a deep dive into how DPR leverages the Venture Ecosystem to drive innovation.
