Philip Lund-Nielsen, Co-Founder and Head of Americas at COBOD International sat down with us at the 2022 Americas Summit to chat about the industry and what the largest 3D Construction Printing company is up to and what he’s most excited about in the industry.
During the interview, Lund-Nielsen expresses his excitement about widespread adoption of 3D printing on construction projects. He says that just a few years ago, 3D printers were only being used on very small individual jobs as a proof of concept. Now that they’ve proven themselves to be a quicker and more efficient way to produce certain structure, the technology is being adopted more regularly and on larger projects.
Lund-Nielsen says that a technology he’s most excited about in the future is the use of AI on construction projects. He says that this should help further adoption of 3D printing technology by making the entire planning process more efficient.
We asked Lund-Nielsen what he thinks is one of the most misunderstood topics in the construction industry and his answer was understanding the differences between concrete and cement. He says that a lot of people he’s interacted with throughout his career have accidentally used the two terms interchangeably when they are in fact very different. Concrete is the end product while cement is the glue that binds everything together.
COBOD International was featured in our 2021 Top 50 Robotics list as a top solution for 3D printers in the construction field. BuiltWorlds develops a new Top 50 List every month and we are constantly taking applications on a rolling basis for each. If you are, or know someone who is, qualified to be on a list, don’t hesitate to fill out an application today.
