We first launched our Top Built World Investors List highlighting top investors in buildings and infrastructure development, architecture, engineering, construction, and operations technologies back in early 2018 with just 27 investor groups. We wanted to shine a light on the growth of new venture investor groups specifically focused on our industries. Since that time, we have seen the number of investors in the sector balloon. In 2020, we created a Venture Deals Dashboard to track them all, 78 deals so far this year involving more than 200 different strategic investor and investment fund groups.

Amid Many one-off investors this year, The Top 50 highlights the most active investors.

With so many investors, we had to apply some more strict criteria to our Top 50 this year. So, while you can find many more on our dashboard or in our company directory, we limited the list to firms that made at least two investments this year or that were on the list last year and made at least one additional investment so far in 2020. So, these are the most active investors we've identified in the Built World sector today.

According to our research, this year's most prolific sector investors were:

• BDC Capital
• Blackhorn Ventures
• Brick & Mortar Ventures
• JLL Spark
• Khosla Ventures
• Suffolk

Each made at least three investments in technologies related to development, design, construction, operations, or maintenance of buildings or physical infrastructure, our definition of the Built World sector.

Strategics and Funds, This year brings as many new names as returning ones

In another sign of the growth in interest in the sector, this year, we identified almost as many new active investors as returning ones. To help further underscore the trend, we have identified returning investors in bold and new investors in italics. With a month left in the year, there will likely be many more on our dashboard before the year is out, and next year's list will become even more crowded.

Also worth noting is the growth in investors based outside of the United States. This is a trend we covered extensively in at our Global Summit. We have been documenting this trend, and based on our findings to be catalogued in an upcoming report, the global built world investor ecosystem will continue to see more active investor groups in the years to come.
