2020 Adoption Leaders 50 List

As The Industry Tech Adopter Ranks Grow, This Year's List Focuses Exclusively on AEC Adoption Leaders

Much has changed since we first launched our Adoption Leaders Top List back in 2017.  We launched the list because we noticed people were being place into leadership roles at industry companies to help their companies find, select, and implement new technologies. In these earlier lists, we found people from across a full spectrum of industry players, including manufacturers, consulting firms, and even other tech companies. With the ballooning number of people being added or promoted into new positions in the past couple of years, we opted this year to focus exclusively on AEC Tech Adopters. We hope this will provide an even clearer understanding of how significant the industry's shift is.

Fielding the List Exclusively From BuiltWorlds Member Companies

BuiltWorlds' member companies have naturally been leaders in growing their tech adopters ranks. This list features people newly hired or recently given new tech adoption-related titles and responsibilities from thirty-two of our AEC Member companies. Many of our member companies have added several people just in the past couple of years to their tech-related teams, across a range of investment, VDC, data science, innovation strategy, field tech, and other roles.  In fact McCarthy  is this year's "winner," with four entries on the list. Close behind, ARCO/Murray, DPR, EllisDon, Haskell, and Suffolk each added three people to the list.

AEC Tech Ranks Are Anticipated To Continue Growing

Beyond the number of industry players of all sizes now adding Tech Adoption Leaders and the number of folks added in the past couple of years, BuiltWorlds Members overwhelming plan to continue adding to their teams.  Our recent Virtual Design and Construction Benchmarking Report revealed that two separate survey of our members indicated the majority plan to add to their VDC teams, alone, in the coming year.  Sixty percent of members taking our High Performance Buildings Survey and fully seventy eight percent of members participating in our Pre-Construction Survey as part of our Member Adoption Practices Benchmarking Program indicated plans to add to their VDC teams in the coming years. Of course, VDC teams are now only one area where AEC firms are adding to their tech ranks. We hope the list below provides some interesting insights about the variety of positions being created as leading industry organizations adapt to win the future of our industry.
